Maharashtra government announced a special committee that would be set up to expedite the process of slum rehabilitation in Pune & Pimpri Chinchwad. The Housing Minister, Maharashtra – Jitendra Awhad held meeting to review the current status of SRA projects on Saturday. The government officials – Shekhar Gaikwad (Pune Municipal Commissioner), Shravan Hardikar (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner), Rajendra Nimbalkar (CEO of SRA Pune), city engineers and representative from CREDAI were present during the meeting.
According to the estimate, nearly 40% of the population of Pune resides in slums. The SRA projects have been facing delays to execute the work with some technical issues. The formation of new committee will thus help in this fast-track projects and to expedite the execution time for the projects. With various suggestions and feedback in the meeting, the committee will be set up in the upcoming month.
The State government also decided to issue and distribute ID cards to the people living in slums of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. With SRA having the details of slum dwellers the cards will be issued soon to them.
The SRA had agreed upon the sanction of project proposal put forwards by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the execution of rehabilitation projects on its own despite giving them to the private builders.
